| Marin Education Fund, Assemblymember Huffman and Senator Migden Host Cal-Grant Workshop |
|
San Rafael, CA–California Cash for College, a partnership program of the California Student Aid Commission, Marin Education Fund, Assemblymember Jared Huffman, and Senator Carole Midgen will host a Cash for College workshop at San Rafael High on February 2, 2008, from 10:00am – 2:00pm. During the free workshop, financial aid professionals will provide hands-on, multilingual financial aid assistance to help students and their families successfully complete the forms necessary to apply for Cal Grants – free cash for college – and other financial aid. “Marin Education Fund believes everyone should have a chance at college. We are thrilled to be a partner in this important event,” said Kim Mazzuca, President, Marin Education Fund. Marin Education Fund (www.marineducationfund.org) is a non-profit organization that provides college access programs, scholarships and support to low-income students pursuing their educational dreams. High school seniors who attend a 2008 Cash for College workshop and complete and file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and Cal Grant GPA Verification Form by the March 2, 2008 Cal Grant deadline could cash in on an extra $1,000 scholarship. “This is an incredible opportunity for the young adults in my district,” said Assemblymember Huffman. “Providing an added resource to help pay for college could mean the difference between getting an education or not.” With a Cal Grant, students can be awarded up to $9,700 per year to pay for college or career/technical school expenses. On a local level, Marin Education Fund will provide over $1.3 million in scholarships to 434 local students in pursuit of their educational goals this year. To apply for a Cal Grant, students must fill out and submit two forms – a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and a Cal Grant GPA Verification form by the March 2, 2008 deadline. Students and families can visit www.marineducationfund.org or call Dawn Alexander for more information at (415) 451-4013. What Students and Parents Need to Bring to a Cash for College Workshop:
