Huffman Launches Investigation
Recent reports indicate that CalTrans has been illegally dumping road-kill and pets near highways

San Rafael, CA- Today Assemblymember Jared Huffman (D-San Rafael) sent the attached letter to the Director of California’s Department of Transportation seeking answers to reports of illegal dumping of dead animals found on California roads and highways by employees of the California Department of Transportation (CalTrans).
In a series of investigative reports conducted by Channel 5 CBS (San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose) on September 27, October 1, and October 4, information was presented indicating that CalTrans employees had been disposing of dead animals near highways in Saratoga and San Mateo.  Yesterday, two new sites were discovered; a site near Rodeo Avenue in Sausalito and a site near Highway 12 outside of Santa Rosa.  According to newspaper reports, CalTrans acknowledges that road-kill dumping has occurred.  “This information is very disturbing and I would like to know what CalTrans is doing to remedy the situation,” said Assemblymember Jared Huffman.
