SACRAMENTO, CA— Assemblymember Jared Huffman (D-San Rafael) named Sharon Doughty “Woman of the Year” for his sixth Assembly District. On Monday, March 5, Sharon joined other Women of the Year and was presented with a framed certificate on the Assembly floor. Sharon Doughty is a third generation dairywoman raised in Point Reyes, CA. Her and her husband co-own the Point Reyes Vineyard Inn, and have received recognition for their award-winning wines and vineyards in Marin County. Mrs. Doughty has served her community through holding several positions on state and local committees, including the CA Coastal Commission, the Marin Agricultural Land Trust, Marin Community Foundation as well as worked with Congresswoman Lynne Woolsey on the Point Reyes Farmland Protection Act of 1999. “I’m so honored to have Sharon in my district,” said Huffman. “The contribution she has made both agriculturally and politically makes this award well deserved. I applaud her for the passion and selflessness; she is an inspiration for us all.” Mrs. Doughty began the day at a breakfast reception hosted by the Lieutenant Governor. She then made her way to the Assembly floor where she was recognized for her outstanding work. She and her husband then went to lunch with the Assemblymember. She closed out her day by attending the “Woman of the Year” reception in the Eureka Room in the State Capitol. Every year, the California Legislative Women’s Caucus sponsors its Woman of the Year celebration. Each Assemblymember selects a woman from his or her district who has contributed significantly to her community. |
