Huffman Receives Key Committee Assignments
Freshman Assemblymember tapped for powerful Appropriations Committee

SACRAMENTO— Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez (D-Los Angeles) assigned Freshman legislator Jared Huffman (D-San Rafael) to four standing committees today for the 2007-2008 legislative session. Huffman will serve on the powerful Appropriations Committee which must approve all legislation having significant fiscal impacts, as well as the Utilities and Commerce Committee and Water Parks and Wildlife Committee. As previously announced by Nunez, Huffman will also serve as Chairman of the Assembly’s committee on Enviornmental Safety and Toxic Materials.

“I’m honored and excited to be serving on such substantive and important committees,” said Huffman. “The wide range of topics these committees embody will give me a strong voice in representing the people of the North Bay.”

Huffman represents the 6th Assembly District which encompasses the County of Marin and southern Sonoma County. Prior to joining the Assembly in December of 2006, he worked as a Senior Attorney for the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) and also served for twelve years as a Director of the Marin Municipal Water District.
