Berg to Chair Assembly Aging and Long-Term Care Committee

New Speaker Promotes Freshman Assemblymember
Newly-elected Assembly Speaker Fabian Nuñez appointed Assemblymember Berg as Chair of the Aging and Long-Term Care Committee. Berg has served as Vice Chair of the Committee for the past year. With this promotion, Berg becomes one of a handful of members to chair a Standing Committee.

“I’m delighted to have the opportunity to chair the Aging and Long-Term Care Committee. Providing quality services to the elderly has been my passion for many years. This is the perfect role for me to advocate on behalf of the Aging Community, and provide seniors the best level of care. I look forward to crating solutions to deal with the ever-increasing need for quality and affordable services for California’s seniors,” said Berg, in response to her new role as Chair of the Assembly Committee.

“For far too long, senior issues have not received the attention they deserve. I will work hard to bring the Aging Community together and make their voices heard in Sacramento. It is absolutely critical that we prepare to meet the future needs of California’s increasing aging population, especially as the Baby Boomers approach retirement age,” Berg commented.

Prior to her tenure in the Assembly, Berg was the Founder and Executive Director of the Humboldt and Del Norte Counties Area Agency on Aging, which she directed for 19 years. She also has an extensive background in social work, having worked as a medical and psychiatric social worker in California.

Elected in November 2002, Assemblymember Patty Berg represents the 1st Assembly District. The District stretches from the Oregon Border south to include the Counties of Del Norte, Humboldt, Mendocino, Lake, Trinity, and parts of Sonoma. She currently serves as Chair of the Assembly Committee on Aging and Long-Term Care and the Joint Committee on Fisheries and Aquaculture. She also serves on the Assembly Agriculture, Appropriations, and Water, Parks, and Wildlife Committees and chairs California’s first Select Committee on Sustainability.
