Berg Comments on Passage of Workers' Compensation Reform

Sacramento - Assemblymember Patty Berg issued the following statements today regarding legislative approval of workers' compensation reform:

"I voted in favor of the workers' compensation reform bill. It provides significant cost savings to the system. Combined with reforms from last year, costs in the system should be reduced by approximately $10 to $12 billion. It is truly an overhaul, which is something I've been advocating for since last May."

"I'm disappointed the Governor refused to include some form of rate regulation of insurance companies, which I believe is the only way to ensure that savings are passed on to small businesses. I'm coauthoring AB 16 (Levine) 4X, a democratic proposal to do just that."

"Overall, I'm pleased with the bipartisan effort on this issue. It just shows that by working together, you can accomplish positive change for California. I'm hoping this sends the message that California is a business-friendly state."
