Assemblymember Berg to Chair Joint Committee on Fisheries And Aquaculture

Sacramento – Assemblymember Patty Berg has been selected to Chair the Joint Committee on Fisheries and Aquaculture.

The Joint Committee on Fisheries and Aquaculture was first established in 1981. This Committee was set up to deal with issues of the fishing and aquaculture industries including but not limited to, state and federal government regulatory actions. Its main charge is that of protecting the industry and finding ways to overcome problems. The Committee serves to protect and enhance fishery resources as well as protect consumers, thereby helping to stimulate the economy. It also provides oversight of executive branch activities concerning the fishing and aquaculture industries to ensure that those activities are cost effective and in the best interest of the state. The Committee works with counties, cities, and local law enforcement agencies to investigate any matter of concern.

Assemblymember Berg said, “It is truly an honor to be the Chair of the Joint Committee on Fisheries and Aquaculture.” She went on to say, “Chairing this Committee is very important to me since fishing is a major industry and employer in my district. Chairing the Joint Committee on Fisheries and Aquaculture puts me in an excellent position to serve my district and its interests well.”

The Joint Committee on Fisheries and Aquaculture consists of four members of the Senate and four members of the Assembly.
