Healdsburg Armory bill passes Assembly

Bill will help with community development.

SACRAMENTO—The Assembly passed a bill on Thursday that would allow the City of Healdsburg to lease the Armory from the Department of General Services.

Civic leaders have long sought authority to take control of the dilapidated facility and turn it into a community asset.

“I have toured the Healdsburg Armory, and it’s an eye-sore,” said Berg, D-Eureka. “This is a great opportunity for the city to create a community center for Healdsburg residents.”

In 1949, the City of Healdsburg donated two acres in the city center to the state for an armory used by the National Guard. The armory was used for training and storage until 15 years ago. Since then, the building has fallen into disrepair. The city plans to renovate the building and use it for community purposes.

Assembly Bill 1123 now goes to the Senate for further consideration.
