Berg to chair health spending committee

Assemblywoman Patty Berg, D-Eureka, will play a significant role in determining how the state spends money on health services next year under a reorganization plan released by Assembly leadership Monday.
Berg, if re-elected in November, will serve as chairwoman of the Assembly Budget Subcommittee on Health and Human Services under the plan by Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez.
The “Budget Sub-One Committee,” as it is known in the Capitol, works out a spending plan for Medi-Cal, aging, mental health and other state-provided health services. That plan then goes to the Assembly Budget Committee, which must reconcile differences with the spending plan drafted in the Senate, before the Legislature sends a completed budget to the governor.
