NCS staff to talk unification

State Assemblywoman Patty Berg and state Sen. Patricia Wiggins have contacted Northcoast Children's Services in hopes of discussing a neutrality agreement at its meeting today.
In an Oct. 26 letter to Northcoast Children's Services board President Gretchen Rist, Berg and Wiggins said NCS employees are weighing the benefits of union representation and are in talks with the California Federation of Teachers.
CFA representatives, a representative for Berg and Wiggins and Humboldt/Del Norte Central Labor Council executive director Jim Smith will attend tonight's board meeting at the NCS main office, at 1266 9th St. in Arcata.
