“Big 4” Legislative Leaders Issue Joint Statement
on Progress During Budget Negotiations

Sacramento—After today’s “Big 4” budget meeting with Senate President pro Tem Don Perata (D-Oakland), Speaker Karen Bass (D-Los Angeles), Assembly Republican Leader Mike Villines (R-Clovis), and Senate Republican Leader Dave Cogdill (R-Fresno), the leaders issued the following joint statement:

“We are continuing to make bipartisan progress on a balanced budget that moves California forward. Contributing to our budget problem are the severity of the economic downturn, the collapse of the housing market, natural disasters and lawsuits, so there are no easy choices.

“Earlier this year, the Legislature made difficult decisions. We are confident we can do so again.”
