Sacramento -- Assembly Speaker Karen Bass made her first appointments today, naming Assemblyman Albert Torrico (D-Fremont) as Majority Leader and Assemblyman Curren Price Jr. (D-Inglewood) as Chairman of the Governmental Organization Committee.

“These appointments reflect my desire to maintain stability in the Assembly,” said Bass. “Both Assemblymembers Torrico and Price have the wide respect of their colleagues. They will be valuable additions to my leadership team as we tackle the budget and the other key issues before us.”

Bass said she will not change other committee chairmanships until the next session. However, she plans to name committee chair “designees” in the near future.

Torrico is Director of Majority Affairs and was chairman of the Governmental Organization Committee. He also serves on the Committees on Baking and Finance; Business and Professions; Public Employees, Retirement, and Social Security; and Joint Legislative Audit.

Price is Chairman of the Elections and Redistricting Committee and serves on the Jobs, Economic Development and the Economy Committee; Commerce & Utilities Committee; and on the Business and Professions Committee.
