Chu And Yee To Co-Chair Asian Pacific Islander Legislative Caucus

SACRAMENTO - Assemblymember Judy Chu (D-Monterey Park) and Speaker pro Tempore Leland Yee (D-San Francisco/Daly City) have been selected by members of the California Asian Pacific Islander (API) Legislative Caucus to serve as Co-Chairs of the Caucus.

"As the API community continues to grow and diversify," said Assemblymember Chu. "Having Co-Chairs from each end of the state will help us to better understand and represent the issues faced by APIs across the state."

"I am honored to co-chair the API Legislative Caucus with Assemblywoman Chu," said Speaker pro Tem Yee. "I look forward to continuing our efforts to represent the interests and concerns of Asian Pacific Americans from throughout California, including the coastside, central valley, and the Sierras. The Caucus will continue to advocate for our children, our state's diverse communities, and protecting vital services."

The Caucus' 2005 Agenda includes: preserving critical programs that serve APIs, supporting API legislation, supporting the Commission on Asian Pacific Islander American Affairs, organizing the Caucus' second annual API policy summit, and increasing the number of API appointments.

The mission of the API Caucus is to represent and advocate for the interests of the diverse API communities throughout the State. In addition to Chu and Yee, the API Caucus consists of Democratic Assemblymembers Wilma Chan (D-Oakland), Carol Liu (D-La Canada Flintridge), and Alberto Torrico (D-Newark). State Board of Equalization Members, John Chiang and Betty Yee, serve as honorary members of the Caucus.
