Sycamore Canyon Road Community Update
A portion of our web site has been dedicated to providing concerned residents with updates on the status of the Sycamore Canyon Road closure. The road remains closed after being shut down in January 2005 due to the most recent landslide. To keep residents up-to-date, a “Sycamore Canyon Road: Community Update” button has been posted on our homepage at www.assembly.ca.gov/nava.
Ongoing updates will be posted at this site. Our office will be working closely with Caltrans officials to keep residents informed about the progress of this pressing issue. Our first update includes Caltrans’ visit to Sycamore Canyon Road to assess the current condition and options, including the installation of BLM-type gates at either end of the slide that will provide access to emergency service vehicles. At our site, residents can make comments that will be sent directly to Caltrans.

Assemblymember Nava Pushes Legislation that Protects the Few Remaining California Condors
 |
| Photo by Dave Monley. |
SACRAMENTO- Depicted on the back of our new state quarter, the California condor is North America’s largest terrestrial bird. Unfortunately, the well-being of the California condor is at risk. Undeniable evidence shows that California condors experience highly elevated blood-lead levels as the result of ingesting lead ammunition left by hunters in the wild. Ingesting even a few fragments of a shattered lead bullet can kill a condor.
For this reason, Assemblymember Nava introduced the Ridley-Tree Condor Preservation Act, which prevents future condor mortalities from lead poisoning by simply requiring hunters in condor areas to use widely available lead-free ammunition.
There are less than 300 California condors alive in the world today and they need your help. To register your support for legislation that will protect the California condor, please contact Assemblymember Nava at (916) 319-2035.
Assemblymember Pedro Nava Goes Door-to-Door in El Rio to Seek Support for his Legislation

Assemblymember Nava speaks to an El Rio resident about AB 2522.

EL RIO- In an effort to garner strong community support for his Groundwater Protection Fund legislation, AB 2522, Assemblymember Nava held a rally and walked door-to-door in El Rio. He met with constituents and gathered letters of support that he took back with him to Sacramento to submit to the Senate Appropriations Committee where the bill will be heard next. “It’s important for me to go to the homes and meet with the people I am representing to get their support for this important legislation that will assist them with the costs of the sewer conversion project,” said Assemblymember Nava.
AB 2522 creates a Groundwater Protection Fund in an effort to preserve water quality in Ventura County by assisting low-income residents in the unincorporated areas of El Rio and Strickland Acres in converting from septic tanks to a sewer system.
