Statement from Assembly Budget Chair Laird on LAO May Revise Overview |
|
SACRAMENTO – Assembly Budget Committee Chair John Laird (D-Santa Cruz) today released the following statement regarding the non-partisan Legislative Analyst’s overview of Governor Schwarzenegger’s May Revise budget proposal: “As usual, the Legislative Analyst has given us a sound, non-partisan analysis. She finds that the governor’s lottery proposal is too optimistic and would threaten school funding—but she sees the need for a scaled-down lottery proposal. She also finds that the governor’s ‘reform’ proposal—which would establish a third budget reserve and then drain it for the General Fund—is seriously flawed. This analysis points the way to a balanced approach that would reverse the draconian proposals that target schools, seniors and healthcare.” For more information about the state budget, visit http://democrats.assembly.ca.gov/members/a27/budget08.htm |
