| Assemblymember Pedro Nava addresses crowd during his Resource Business Expo in Ventura. |
I hosted my first annual business resource expo on March 24th at the Crowne Plaza Ventura Beach Hotel. The Expo was co-sponsored by the California Small Business Association in partnership with the Ventura Chamber of Commerce and the Oxnard Chamber of Commerce. More than two hundred people attended the event representing every segment of the business community.
The expo focused on bringing resources to the Ventura County business community regarding how to do business with the federal, state, and local governments.
Additionally, many public and private organizations were on hand to provide information and resources to businesses and prospective entrepreneurs.
I believe it is important to work with our local business community because they are important to the economic well being of Ventura County. The small business community especially, employs and produces many jobs vital to the local economy. The state, federal and local governments look to the private sector to fulfill many important roles. There are many opportunities available to the local business community and prospective business owners.
Every year, millions of dollars in opportunities are awarded to qualified businesses in our state. However, as with anything, I realize that many businesses do not have the knowledge or the time to benefit from these opportunities. I look forward to working with my sponsors and partners for an even better expo next year. If you would like more information regarding the expo or on any other business related matter please contact my office.

Assemblymember Pedro Nava Holds Press Conference to Announce Funding for Vital La Conchita Study
LA CONCHITA - Assemblymember Pedro Nava was pleased to announce at a press conference, held on Tuesday, April 4, 2006 at Ventura County Fire Station #25 that the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services is going to provide funding for a vital emergency preparedness and environmental study of the community of La Conchita and the surrounding transportation infrastructure.
In his January letter to the Office of Emergency Services, Mr. Nava requested that a plan be put into place to address the dangers in the region. The State will release funds that will match Federal monies to complete the study. He is hopeful that this is the first step in preventing future loss of life and property along La Conchita and protecting our economic arteries, Highway 101 and the Union Pacific Rail Line.

Earth Day 2006: Help Preserve Our Beautiful Planet
According the State Department of Conservation, Californians buy 18.2 billion aluminum cans and of those, 12.8 billion are recycled. Californians are great at recycling, but we could do more. During this month, do some spring-cleaning and recycle electronic components that you no longer use or no longer function-otherwise known as “e-waste.” Some of these electronic components have harmful chemicals like lead and mercury that could harm young children or if in a landfill, can seep into our groundwater. Below are facilities in your area that will recycle not only your “e-waste,” but all types of household hazardous waste, including paint, car batteries, and cleaning chemicals:
Del Norte Recycling Center 111 South Del Norte Boulevard, Oxnard, CA 93030, Phone: (805) 385-8060
Gold Coast Recycling Center - 5275 Colt Street, Ventura, CA 93003, (805) 642-9236
South Coast and Transfer Station Recycling - 4430 Calle Real, Santa Barbara, CA 93110 Phone: (805) 681-4345
Community Hazardous Waste Collection Center - Mesa Road, Building 565 on campus of University of California at Santa Barbara, Goleta, CA 93117, (805) 963-0583, ext. 104 or 105
